Foothill Coyotes

In a fairly well-used area of the Sandia Foothills, a wonderful drama unfolded to sketch: “The dark coyote moved with purpose to an open, tall grassy area, where it put the prey down. When he was aware of my presence, he moved behind a bush. I followed and minutes later saw a lighter coyote staring at me. When I continued to move, it hid behind a rock, with just ears showing and sometimes an eye. Suddenly I saw the dark coyote moving away. As much as I wanted to solve the mystery of what they did with the prey, I got back on the trail and left, as snow flakes fell.”
